Navreet Sohal
I migrated from India in 2006 to pursue my dream for better life in Australia. The changes in my life were significant. At that time, I was a Researcher in Organic Chemistry and exploring career as Lecturer.
Within a month of arriving, I enrolled in Studies, followed by Bachelor of Social Work. There on, it was start of my settlement journey , with lot of challenges.
I have always lived in Melbourne ( Victoria). I am currently in private practice and working as Team Leader for Mental Health and Family Violence Counseling program.
I am also available to everybody, or even to interstate or overseas people by zoom or phone.
I am a big believer in the power of the human spirit. Most people are inherently good but have lost their way.
Qualifications
I completed Community Welfare and Social Work Degree, which then led to a varied career in Community mental Health services. I worked my way up to senior managerial positions roles, and there, I discovered my passion for counselling. To embrace this passion, I completed a Master of Social Work, specialising trauma counselling. While studying I was working as Team leader for therapeutic family violence counselling program, responsible for supervising Counsellors and Psychologists. I loved it - loved supervising other allied health professionals. It was then that I embarked to do private practice. It allowed me to emerge in helping people heal. It helped transform my own life as I learnt constantly from my clients about life, especially in watching people embrace vulnerability in relationships, practicing self- compassion and overcoming the grip of shame. These are all things that I had to learn in my life to be the best version of myself. So I know first-hand how powerful these skills are to develop.
My Passion And What I Love To Do
I am very lucky to have found a career that I am passionate about. It never feels like going to work to me, as counselling is my heartfelt passion.
To be able to assist individuals to meet their true potential and heal along the way is so humbling and magical to watch.
It is so inspiring to witness the human spirit evolve when freed from these burdens. I love being able to help people with the latest research and their own experiences, leading to the healing journey.
As a life-long learner, I am constantly reading new books, attending courses, watching Ted Talks or researching literature on the human psyche, to be able to offer you the most up-to- date treatments and support available.
How I Spend My Free Time
I enjoy catching up with family and friends while cooking and sharing good food.
I am just as happy dining out or cooking for a dinner party at home.
I am a total book and Ted Talk nerd who loves to travel. I prefer people and experiences over things..
I have a profound love for nature- connecting to farms, backyard and anything green ( Im attracted to it.
You will often find me in my spare time, digging in my garden and bringing the home grown produce to cook delicious meals.
